The settlement of Elateia is located at the foot of Kissavos, near the Athens-Thessaloniki motorway.
In this area, during ancient times, existed a town of the same name, which together with Gonnoi, controlled the Tempi straits. It was during the Ottoman Empire that it was built on its current location and was then named Kouchiouk Kiserli.
