Reports of Ancient Gyrtoni exist from Homer and it is considered to be the most ancient city of Plasgiotida Thessaly, but the exact location of the ancient city in association to the present settlement has not yet been identified.
In Gytroni the visitor can see the konaki of Bakrainas, a three-storey neoclassical mansion built around 1870, a remarkable and representative sample of an agricultural settlement (tsifliki).
Today, the outer walls of the building are preserved and is also called the "konaki of the storks", since the ruins of the area are nestled every year with their families, forthtelling the coming of spring on the Thessalian plain.
